Doctors confirm that wearing hats delays aging and prevents skin cancer. Because of its thin weave, Panama Hats avoid the Sun rays coming through, and yet they are very light and fresh, not like fabric or paper hats. A standard hat weights approximately 28 grs. You will forget you are wearing one and you will be well protected from the harmful Sun rays.

It is an urban legend that all Panama Hats can be rolled up. NOT ALL of them can be rolled up. There is a specific style, the Colonial, that is pressed and shaped in a way that can be folded and rolled up. You will find in some websites that the Classic style can also be rolled up. We do not recommend so, as it will lose its shape. The Classic Style can be folded in half, and this will not affect the shape. You need to put the brim downwards, and following the shape of the crown, fold it in half. If you are going to put it in your suitcase, always fill it up with a t-shirt or similar, to avoid getting a folding mark. Should it get a mark or any crinkles, you can iron it with very low temperature and a thin cloth/fabric in between.

The price for a Panama Hat depends on the quality of the weave. The material it is made with is always the same: Toquilla straw. What makes the difference in the quality is the width of the straw threads, the thinner the thread the higher the quality. When the threads are slimmer, it takes longer to weave each hat. Depending on the quality, hats can take an artisan up to 6 months for weaving only one hat! The quality is graded in numbers, being cero the lowest and going up to even 30. All our hats are grade 2/3 and up.

No. When you buy your new Panama hat, it has a perfect rounded shape. Once you start using it, it will adjust to your head shape, but it will not get larger.

No. The Panama hat weave will not get smaller. Be aware though that the inside band, if it gets wet, might get a bit tighter, depending on the textile mix. This might happen for example with excessive sweat. If so, simply lightly wet the inside band and stretch it with your hands so it will come back to its original size.

Of course this is very personal. In general, it is said that shorter people shouldn’t wear hats with very large brims, and those who are tall look good with brims that are not too short. The safe bet is always the Classic Style. It is the best seller and looks great on everybody.
